Day in NY, Martha and Spotlight

Writing by dimpu on Thursday, 24 of May , 2007 at 7:56 am

I had free tickets to the Martha Stewart show last week. Me and my friends left philly early in the morning and took the bus to NY. It was a beautiful sunny day (in the morning that is)

The show was interesting enough, the set was really nice.

At the Martha Stewart show

So I set my DVR ( a.k.a my life line) to record the show and guess what? We never made it on TV, we were completely cut off!

One thing I noticed about Martha is that she keeps working even during the breaks, she just continues doing her cooking or crafting or whatever.

Later we headed towards times square, got caught and drenched in a thunder storm and finally made it to Spotlight Live ( Eat, Drink, Be famous), a cool Karaoke restaurant on Broadway.
Spotlight Live on Broadway

For the brave there is always the center stage where you can sing (and have your own backup dancers). And for the shy there are the karaoke “pods” where you can sing (in a pod) and choose to have your performance shared on the web (or keep it to yourself). I’m not telling what I did. Lets just say I’m mortified and it will never happen again ;-)

I do love New York but I haven’t visited in the last year. There are so many memories associated with New York…and I’ve never even lived there. Just visited.

Whatever happened to Spring?

Writing by dimpu on Monday, 23 of April , 2007 at 1:47 pm

Seasons changed this weekend. Last weekend felt like winter and this weekend it was summer (what with the 85 degree sun rays beaming down on me). We had like 5 minutes of spring.

Like the leaves and the flowers I feel like I need a big change… not a haircut or new clothes (though that will be great!). I feel like I need to turn over a new leaf. Professionally and personally. Learn more Information Architecture skills (coz thats what I do), exercise more, read more, watch less TV etc. Its better than a News Year’s resolution It feels more like a personal evolution.

So far the steps I have taken towards this evolution is 1) Started this blog 2) Started to read every night..lots more to do

My camera arrived :) But I have consistently forgotten to take pictures. That could be step 3.

Random list of some things I ate/drank this weekend
1) pupu Platter for brunch at Devil’s Alley
(Consists of one corn pancake, one slice French toast, 2 scrambled eggs and bacon). I love dishes like this for people like me who cannot decide whether to go with sweet or savory. the Corn pancake was delicious btw. It was like cornbread rolled out into a pancake. And since I don’t eat bacon i substituted the bacon with grilled tomatoes..yum!
2) Dim sum for lunch on sunday at Lake Side Chinese Deli. I don’t remember the names of the dishes. but there was my favorite shrimp in the rice roll, curried squid, shrimp dumpling, delicious Chinese broccolis, and chicken feet (that I wouldn’t touch ;))
3) Dinner at Banana Leaf on sunday.
Banana Leaf is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. Nice byob, friendly wait staff. and the food is yum. Stuff to order in banana leaf: The Roti Canai (but of course). The beef satay, The Mee-Siam Noodle, and the Sambal shrimp. those are my top favorites. But I haven’t tried everything on their menu just yet
4) Happy hour at Vintage on Monday. 2 glasses or Pinot Grigio, Lamb dumpling and some great chicken dish from the special menu who’s name I can’t recall.

So today Tuesday I will go to the gym ;-)

Impulse buy!

Writing by dimpu on Monday, 16 of April , 2007 at 2:04 pm

I just bought a camera. A Canon SD800 IS. It has good reviews. But the best part is that I made my decision so quickly (almost unheard of for me). Usually I agonize over choices. Look at hundreds of site try to find the minutest details to change my mind. I compare and contrast and when I do make a decision I regret it almost immediately. Not today. I had no idea I was buying a camera this morning and now I have bought one! I feel liberated! No big decisions no what ifs and no buts. I love my camera already and its not even here :)

Stuck at my name

Writing by dimpu on Friday, 13 of April , 2007 at 8:41 am

I cannot seem to get past figuring out a username. Maybe thats why it took me 4 years to get a blog. All the .coms I wanted were taken so I finally I figured that I cannot wait for the perfect url or username and I just have to do with what I get. So Dimpu.net it is. Its a personal title. But hopefully easy to remember.

The look and feel of the site may change dramatically. Right now I’m all excited about word press and the zillion free themes available. Just like that elusive username and url the theme is hard choice to make.
