Lead the information architecture and UX strategy to redesign video consumption on Comcast.net

The Challenge:
Redesign the existing Video channel on Comcast.net to increase video views which translates to revenue.

My Role:

  • Presented the UX strategy to c-level executives and convinced them to implement it.
  • Produced a secondary research document based on findings from Forrester, Pew, Nielsen and internal user research findings
  • Created site maps, detailed wireframes, interaction behaviors and project briefs.
  • Presented click though prototypes.
  • Conducted guerrilla testing.
  • Supported design, development and QA teams throughout the agile project lifecycle.

The Result:
The resulting site had a 13% increase in video views which directly led to an increase in revenue

Provided UX consulting and recommendations for the Comcast iPhone app

The Challenge:
Review Comcast iPhone app and provide recommendations to improve the UX and add features.

My Role:

  • Reviewed iPhone documentation created by vendors
  • Provided solution for basic filters and time selection
  • Conducted competitive analysis of other iPhone TV apps
  • Recommended UX improvements and best practices including inclusion of a global tab bar

The Result:
The app was modified to include a tab bar with key modes and included recommended filters. Future phases will include additional recommendations

myTV Concept

Conceptual project for a personalized TV Experience that spans multiple platforms

My Role:

  • Collaborated in brainstorming sessions to help frame the project
  • Assisted in a card storing research initiative to help answer questions about how users categorize content.
  • Collaborated in creating a UX brief based on findings from research studies that detailed project goals, UX guidelines and design considerations.
  • Created user scenarios and conceptual designs to present to business owners and help frame the roadmap.

The Result:

The product team is using the UX documents and concepts to develop their road-map.

Device Authorization

Architected the UX strategy for the company’s first device authorization software to enable users to watch premium video content.

The Challenge:
Protect  premium content by asking users to authorize the devices they use access our site. Make it simple for users to authorize and manage their devices

My Role:

  • Communicated UX strategy and information architecture to senior management.
  • Created UX strategy documents, process flows, use cases, detailed wireframes, clickable prototypes
  • Worked closely with business owners, designers, developers and quality teams throughout the agile process.
  • Incorporated iterative changes based on user testing.

The Result:
Nearly 17,000 devices were successfully authorized by users in the first week which represented an 82% conversion rate. Users with authorized devices returned 75% more frequently and watched 28% videos than average users.

TV Listings Redesign

Redesigned the TV listings page to achieve competitive parity focusing on ad integration, fixing knows usability issues and consolidating multiple grids.

The Challenge:
Quick-fix, limited scope project to integrate advertising and remove multiple scrollbars in the TV listings

My Role:

  • Convinced business owners to change the details pane view design to improve the user experience
  • Accessed known usability issues and provided solutions for the current scope
  • Provided sketches and wireframes outlining multiple approaches.
  • Supported the design and development teams during the 2 week project cycle.

The Result:
The resulting experience exceeded original business goals and provides a platform for future enhancement.

Trivia Games and Bunchball

Integrated trivia games and the bunchball engagement engine into Comcast.net by collaborating on the information architecture and user experience.

The Challenge:
Increase user engagement with the site with the integration of games, rewards and customizable avatars.

My Role:

  • Collaborated on developing a concept model for rewards and recogniton
  • Conducted secondary research on reputation systems, rewards and tasks
  • Created wire-frames to illustrate leader-boards, player profiles and game pages
  • Developed documentation to support design and development teams

The Result:
The project increased user engagement with the site. Typically users who played the trivia games returned to the site more often, consumed more content and were more engaged.

The Fan (video player)

Improved the user experience of “The Fan” video player based on user research, user feedback and best practices.

The Challenge:
Incorporate a user playlist functionality and improve the UX with minimal changes to the existing user interface.

My Role:

  • Scraped the user feedback forum and created a User feedback summary document
  • Gathered insights for previous usability studies and prioritized areas for enhancement
  • Provided detailed documentation highlighting areas of enhancement and solutions to usability issues
  • Created playlist design and interaction behavior that leveraged the existing design.
  • Provided detailed wireframes and interaction behavior notes.

The Result:
The resulting product fixed the known usability issues with major overhaul of the existing site.

Customizable Page

Lead the information Architecture for the first phase of Customizable page project enabling users to customize based on their preferences.

The Challenge:
Provide users with the ability to customize their home base based on their likes and preferences while helping the company monetize and drive traffic.

My Role:

  • Conducted secondary research and competitive analysis for customizable pages.
  • Presented user scenarios  and resulting system response.
  • Created step up step documentation for various states
  • Provided a module scoping document based on development LOEs to help business owners prioritize.

The Result:
The module based approach laid the framework for future iterations of the customizable page and well an incorporating modules within other sections of the site.
